Matthew 6:1-6,16-18

The way the early church witnessed can be a model for us as we seek to respond to the words of Jesus in today’s Gospel. They did their praying, fasting, and gathering of alms in quiet private settings. What people outside the church saw was a community of people who sought to care for and help poor people, homeless people, and marginalized people. What was notable about them was that these Christians ministered to everyone in need, not just their own members. What a witness we would be in our own time if we did the same!
