No matter how much these people wanted him, he knew that he had other work to do. It was time to move on. Could it be that he had noticed the night before how the crowd was dictating the agenda? That was not why he had come. He had come to do not the crowd’s will, but his Father’s, and in prayer he got in touch again with that truth just as we need to in our prayer. Jesus, give us the gift of discernment so that we are never seduced into doing the will of the crowd.
