Luke 10:25-37
A laborer applying for a dangerous job was filling in a questionnaire that asked who should be informed in case of an accident. He wrote: “Anyone in sight.” I would say that is the point of the Good Samaritan parable. We are on the road to Jericho every day. What day passes that we don’t meet someone who needs a comforting word, a helping hand, a listening ear, and a word of caring, a hug, and a smile. And when we come along a wounded traveler, our love is tested. Love and suffering recognize each other as brother and sister. Saint John Paul II said that “suffering is in the world in order to release love.”
