St. John of Capistrano

Luke 12:35-38

Newness is a God thing. Newness in fact seems to be God’s way. Luke’s Gospel describes a situation so new it turns tradition on its head: the Master comes home and waits on his faithful servants.  Our God is not interested in social rules and regulations; even the fact that the Lord is the Lord and we are the underlings doesn’t really matter anymore. Traditions are good, and we should enjoy the sense of continuity they bring to our lives.  But we also need to seek out newness and change, because this is where God lives. The unknown is really not a danger to be feared but a challenge to be met.
