St. Leo the Great
Luke 16:9-15
We learn the lesson in verse nine that material possessions should be used to cement friendships. This is where the real and permanent value of life exists. The rabbis had a saying, “The rich help the poor in this world, but the poor help the rich in the world to come.” There was a Jewish belief that charity given to poor people would stand to a person’s credit in the world to come. A person’s true wealth would not be in what was kept, but in what was given away.
