Mark 10:17-27

In today’s gospel a rich young aristocrat comes running to a poor man (Jesus) and asking Jesus for what he has. Here was a man who supposedly had everything that money can buy yet there was something missing. But Jesus could see right through this man – he was a phony. He was impressed with himself having kept all the laws and rules. The real problem was not the man’s money, but his arrogant attitude. That which stood between him and eternal life was not a big bank account, but a prideful spirit. Jesus placed before him a real challenge which demanded radical choices. There is no true holiness without humility?Those who know God are always humble; those who do not know God are invariably quite sure of themselves.
