Mark 9:30-37

“They fell silent, for on the way they had been arguing about who was the most important.”I think we could all agree that the theme of today’s readings is competition. Competition is an integral part of life – in a sense we cannot live without it yet in today’s gospel we see the sense of competitive instinct gone wrong.  We who profess to be followers of Jesus Christ are faced with the challenge of trying to reconcile both these worlds – a world of competition and a world of caring and sharing.  If you must be competitive even in religion and spirituality, then don’t let anyone else outdo you in service to others.
