John 21:15-19
Unspoken in this gospel is the memory of Peter’s three denials of Jesus in the early hours of Good Friday. But rather than rebuke Peter for his betrayal, Jesus offers Peter the chance to start again, to make amends, to repair the fracture in their relationship – not for Jesus’ sake, but for Peter’s. It’s a moment of grace. So, can we extend the same grace to someone as Jesus does to Peter? Is there a relationship in our life that is in need of repair? Do we possess something of the Spirit of the Risen One that enables us to take the first step toward reconciliation, the openness of heart to accept the apologies and efforts of the other to repair the breach?
