Wednesday of the Third Week of Lent – 

Jesus was not a legalist. He healed people on the Sabbath, which the Pharisees said was breaking the law. But neither was he in fact a lawbreaker. Rather, he fulfilled in himself everything that God’s people had looked forward to for centuries. In Christ, God was giving humanity a fresh start. The old order was completed; the new had begun. That is an enormously satisfying thought. Christ achieved through his life, death, and resurrection what no one else could.
