Matthew 13:47-53
Today we conclude Jesus’ parables’ discourse with the analogy of the drag net thrown into the sea. It follows the same pattern as the analogy of the weeds among the wheat and the judgment of the nations, namely, the righteous will be separated from the wicked at the end of the age. If his hearers understood all the parables and analogies that have preceded this last one then they would be like a storeroom filled with Jesus’ new teaching. Jesus’ words form a new interpretation of the Torah, but they have to be practiced or lived or acted on by those hearing them. One’s behavior must reflect the teaching of Jesus.
