John 3:7-15

St. John attempts to describe the intangible mystery at the heart of Christianity. Jesus talks about the Holy Spirit, “The wind blows where it wills – you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.” Nicodemus, naturally, does not understand what Jesus is talking about because Jesus is talking about heavenly things. Christ cannot be more explicit. Being a Christian involves living with contradictions. It involves the world, it involves eternity, mystery and the holy, and we must be that sign of contradiction in this world.
