St. Christopher Magallanes

John 14:27-31

The peace of Jesus is a mindset; a constant seeking out of God’s presence in all things and places; an awareness of love, justice and mercy; an understanding of our “connectedness” to God and to one another as children of the same God.

St. Bernardine of Siena

John 14:21-26

Love works like a tuning fork. You can strike a tuning fork over an open piano and only the string that rings true to the tuning fork will vibrate. Just so with love. People who love are on the same wavelength with other people who love. If God is love and people fall in love, might they be recognizing the presence of God in each other.

Fifth Sunday of Easter

John 13:31-35

Jesus loved forgivingly. In spite of their failing and faults, Jesus loved his friends. A love that cannot forgive will shrivel and die. Love has two sides, we are to love and be loved. We need this balance in our lives as followers of Jesus. And so we need to love selflessly, sacrificially, forgivingly and with understanding. And we need to be open to accept love.

John 14:7-14

Jesus is the revelation of God and we need to be the revelation of Jesus. He needs to be entering into this world through us. “Whoever believes in me will do the works that I do.” It is important to recall that Jesus chose discipleship as the method of perpetuating the Good News of God’s life in and with us.

John 14:1-6

Thomas asked: “How can we know the way if we don’t know where we are going?” Jesus replied in characteristic fashion, “I am the way!” Follow the truth that I taught you. Live the life that I showed you. You’ll get where you are going if you follow the way of love. You will arrive at your destination if you follow the way of sacrifice. Don’t worry about the goal. Just follow the way!

John 13:16-20

How accepting are we of others? Do we say that we have accepted Jesus Christ but then have a hard time living and working with those whom we consider different? Sometimes it is easier to accept strangers than those with whom we live. Before we say that we accept Jesus Christ, weigh your words carefully and be sure you understand what you are saying and all that it implies.

St. Isidore

John 12:44-50

No one of us is perfect but every one of us possesses something of the beauty and grace of God. We’re often too quick to see the brokenness, the defects, the negatives at the expense of overlooking the possibilities, the hope, the good. Let us realize the good in ourselves and in one another and give thanks to God. Reach out today and affirm the goodness of others.

St. Matthias

John 15:9-17

Jesus calls us to be his friends. The offer of friendship is a blessedness which not even the greatest knew before he came into the world. He offers an intimacy with God which was impossible before his coming. Jesus gave us this intimacy with God so that God is no longer a distant stranger, but our intimate friend. Do we have a sound friendship with our living God?

Our Lady of Fatima

John 10:1-10

Jesus continues to call each one of us by name because he is concerned about us and wants to be with us. As women and men of prayer the voice will become clearer each day as Jesus calls us by name. May we not only hear his voice but also be his voice of love and encouragement toward one another. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Fourth Sunday of Easter

John 10:27-30

In spite of our desire to be independent, one of the most terrifying things about life is its solitude, its loneliness, our need to be with someone or others. Our religion assures us that we are never alone.  Jesus was always aware of the presence of his father. The Psalmist reminds us:  “Even though I walk in the dark valley, I fear no evil for you are at my side.” St. Paul reminds us God is not far from any of us for it is in him that we live and move and have our being.
